  1. Because of how simple it is. The cookie dough gets mixed in one bowl and the creamy peppermint frosting comes together so easy too. You don't need cookie cutters for this recipe, they bake into such beautiful fluffy round shapes using only a cookie scoop.
  2. They never fail. I've made these countless times and you know how sometimes a batch of cookies fails for unknown reasons, I've never had this recipe fail.
  3. They are soft and delicious. The cookies really have such a soft delicate bite, paired with the hint of peppermint in the glaze and crunch of the crushed candy canes on top, it's just so good.

FAQ

Do I need to chill the dough?

No, chilling isn’t required. The dough will be soft, so letting it rest for about 5 minutes makes it easier to handle. If you do make it ahead, just let it sit at room temperature for a bit before scooping.

How should I store these cookies?

Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature. They stay soft and fresh for about 4–5 days.

Can I freeze these cookies?

Yes—both the dough and baked cookies freeze well. For convenience, scoop the dough into balls and freeze them on a baking sheet, then transfer to a container or bag. You can bake them straight from frozen with a slight increase in bake time.

Should I add the glaze before or after freezing?

It’s best to wait. Freeze the cookies plain, then add the glaze and peppermint topping after they’ve thawed for the freshest flavor and texture.
